9 Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Write Anything!

Don't miss the blogging tsunami coming your way!

Written By: Karen Deis

Blogging is a tsunami that is headed towards the mortgage industry!

When it hits, will you be one of the loan officers that will be swept away or will you be one who is firmly entrenched because you were one of the early adapters?

Some of the excuses that I hear are…
I’m not a very good writer!
I don’t know where to find content!
I just don’t have the time!
Why would anyone care what I write?

Just like overcoming any fear—assess the dangers—assess the benefits; (when it comes to blogging), the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step!

Setting up your blog and marketing it to your clients are entirely different topics that Dan Green, BringTheBlog, has covered in an online seminar at www.LoanOfficerSeminars.com.

This article is about HOW to write compelling content, not only to set you up as an expert, but also get more leads in the door. Dan Green (hidden link to MSB Page) gets 50% of his mortgage business (or about $16M annually) from blogging.

Here are nine questions you might want to ask yourself, so you can make an honest, critical appraisal of your comments before sharing them with your clients.

  1. Do you offer your readers something unusual or unexpected?

Don’t follow the crowd. I can’t begin to tell you how many loan officers send me “canned” comments from MMG Weekly; LTB Platinum; etc. Ask yourself…how many other loan officers in your neck of the woods are sending the VERY SAME info to the VERY SAME agents and clients? How does that make you any different than your competition? If you subscribe to those services, MAKE A COMMENT ABOUT IT YOURSELF or rewrite the content so that it fits your personality!

  2. Do your readers immediately grasp what your post is all about?

Make sure your readers understand what you are trying to say – either in your title or your first sentence. They make an immediate decision whether to read your comments or tune you out!

  3. Why should my readers trust me?
