Some folks in government are so concerned about protecting personal privacy that they made us disclose our policy when handling private information.
A different group of folks on the other side of the same building now insist we get more personal by delving into our borrower's ethnicity. (See the revised 1003 dated 1/04.) These folks don't talk to each other because they all eat at a different government cafeteria.
I'm not against giving information that will help us do a better job, mind you, but I'll bet my Captain Midnight Secret Decoder Ring that when this information is put in a government computer, it is going to prove beyond doubt, that lenders are failing to check as many ethic possibilities as are likely.
Since the instructions are far from clear, as a public service, I looked up the definition of ethnicity in Webster's New World Dictionary and I quote: (1) Nations or groups neither Christian nor Jewish; heathens. (2) Designating any of the basic groups or divisions of mankind or of a heterogeneous population, as distinguished by customs, characteristics, language, common history, etc.
