The new breed of homebuyer is extremely different than the "traditional" homebuyer profile of married couples with 2.3 children. There is a huge increase of single buyers and unmarried couples with no children.
In 1995, over 70 percent of homebuyers were married couples but in 2003, only 59 percent were married.
Additionally, 37 percent of first-time homebuyers were single in 2003, up from 26 percent in 2002. Of the 37 percent (of first-time homebuyers), single women represented 20 percent of that total.
