Romance Novels and Your Mortgage Business

What a Romance Novel Can Teach You About Writing Great Copy!

Written By: Karen Deis

If you’ve ever read a romance novel, you know what I’m talking about! It’s not the hot passion that gets readers to turn those pages. It’s not about boy-gets-girl. According to Sonia Simone, a romance novel publisher and one of the top bloggers in the country says it’s about the way the couple fights their way thru the mountain of painful, difficult conflicts before they get the reward of being together forever!

Do you want to write a blog—that people will actually read?

Do you need to write copy for your website, brochures or marketing pieces?

Then it’s critical that you engage your readers on an emotional level. Telling the story, in a vivid way, will build empathy with your prospects. If you can describe a painful, difficult problem in strong language, you will create an emotional bond with your customers.

So what does that have to do with your mortgage business? When loan officers write about themselves (or their company) all too often they tell the world how wonderful and great they are, how many loans they closed or how long they have been in the business. Boring.

I have taken a couple of really boring bios that I found on the Internet and re-written them as a story that describes the pain of getting a mortgage, with an explanation on how the re-write says the same thing but connects with the reader.
